taste for salt

for the truly indecisive

Can’t decide what to make for dinner? If you’re truly uninspired by what’s in your fridge, crave nothing in particular, and really want to leave it to the gods, you’ve now got an option beyond 1. throwing darts at your cookbook collection, 2. giving up and calling for takeout, or 3. going hungry and drinking a beer instead.

You can always check your food horoscope.

(I didn’t say it was a good option. In a pinch, I turn to pasta with garlic, olive oil, and cheese, but that’s just me.)

yahoo! food

You heard it hear first! Yahoo! launched a food site. And it looks pretty good, honestly.

To hell with Rachael Ray and her goddam EVOO, but I love the idea of being able to search recipes on Food & Wine and Epicurious (which the manager of the team actually cofounded). And the site is quite pretty.

I’m a little depressed that they didn’t intuit my natural talents, ferret me out of my Yahoo! cube, and beg me to join the team. But then again, they’d have to throw more than food and money at me to get me to move to L.A.

another food crush

Some days I am so inundated with pointless information, I can’t stand the idea of dealing with any more “media,” never mind contributing to it. But then I fall in looooove with the Internet. Again.

My latest crush: Slashfood. First of all, you obviously have to love it just for its name. What happens when a site gets Slashfooded? (Food fight!) Thankfully, as its name implies, it’s also loaded with food-lover news, tips, rants, comments, even food porn (think up-close-and-personal food photos and written slobbering over a dish or ingredient). The posters aren’t snotty, they don’t spoil the fun with half-baked humor, and they genuinely love food.

Plus I find things like the Nordljus food-photography blog, which puts my whole relationship with food to shame (or at least my sad, sad attempts to cook and/or photograph it). Not that I need another blog in my life, but when a site makes me shout HOLY CRAP at my computer, I figure I’ll make an exception. Those pictures are fucking beautiful.
